International Youth Day 2023

Every year, the 12th of August is celebrated as International Youth Day, a globally recognized awareness day designated by the United Nations (UN). The inaugural Youth Day took place in 1999 following a resolution by the UN General Assembly (UNGA), which endorsed the recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth held in Lisbon.

International Youth Day aims to shed light on various challenges impacting young people worldwide. The UN General Assembly began actively promoting youth empowerment in 1965, endorsing the Declaration on the Promotion among Youth of the Ideals of Peace, Mutual Respect, and Understanding between Peoples. Their commitment to empowering the youth has grown over the years, with a focus on recognizing emerging leaders and offering resources to address global needs.

The significance of International Youth Day lies in its platform for honoring the qualities and potential of young individuals in nation-building and global progress. The day acknowledges the hurdles faced by young people and directs efforts toward their resolution. Youth contribute significantly to community development, environmental protection, and social volunteering.

The day also draws attention to the challenges faced by youth worldwide. Many lack basic education and suffer from hunger and poverty, hindering their growth. To ensure a promising future for them, immediate action is required. International Youth Day calls upon everyone to unite with the United Nations and assist in achieving their Sustainable Development Goals, creating a brighter tomorrow for our youth and the world.
